Location:

Wayanad is a mountain district situated about 115 kms northeast of Kozhikkode en route to Mysore at an altitude of 2100 mts above mean sea level.

Attractions :

It is often referred to as the Fragrant land of Kerala for its luxuriant plantations of coffee,tea, cardamom, pepper and rubber .From time immemorial Wayanad is famous for its forest produce like pepper, cardamom, coffee etc. Pepper grown especially in Pulpally and Vythiri has a unique taste and fragrance. This busy mountain district is blessed with cool climate and sylvan valleys filled with spicy fragrance.
The forests here are amongst the most beautiful locales of Kerala. The region has a wealth of diverse species of plants and animals and is of great interest to nature lovers.

Waynad is still a large habitat for tribal population with fascinating life styles. Historians contend that civilization existed in several parts of Wayanad at least a thousand years before Christ. Relics of the new Stone Age civilization can be seen in the Edkal caves near Ambukuthimala.

The slopes of the hills abound in all kinds of rare flora and fauna. The Atlas moth, the largest of its kind in the world, is a unique inhabitant of the park. Other rare species of fauna found here are the Nilgiri Langur, the liontailed macaque, leopards, tigers, etc. An ideal place for trekking, facilities are provided here and tourists are allowed to go on foot up to Anamudi.

Getting there

The 'gateway' to Wayanad is Kalpetta. Lakkidi, one of the highest spots en route to Kalpetta, is noted for its picturesque scenery. The 12 km long journey from the foot of the hill to Lakkidi is a fascinating experience. This is one of the highest locations in Waynad which register the second highest degree of rainfall in the world.
